Orme model of theological reflection consist of nine steps. This refelective model and assessment tool can be used to engage in deep theological reflection. The signficant element of this model is the Omega.
Omega can be utilized throughout the entire model by integrating a deeper theological reflection. According to The Zondervan Pictorial Dictionary Omega, "is employed as a symbol of inclusiveness..." Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and last. Therefore, the word Omega used in this model will symbolize the elements of prayer, scripture, tradition, and culture. Thus, enabling individuals to integrate as well as engage their spiritual disciplines during the reflective stages.
1. Omega: The beginning--Alpha stage: looking through the lens of scriptures, tradition and culture. Begin the theological reflection by engaging Prayer, Scripture Reading, Tradition, or Cutlure.
2. Reflection: How do you find God in this experience? As well as inviting God to commune and be presence during the reflective process. this step will go beyond the Omega stage, allowing space for the Holy Spirit to resonate images, or symbols of God.
3. Method of action: Being open and receptive of what do you feel you're being called to do? How will you live out that call? What changes are you being called to make? Who will it affect? Establish action steps or plan.
4. Experience: Re-visit the story or experience. What took place? When did it take place? How did it affect you?
5. Honing and naming the new found truths: By identifying findings. Write affirmations and daily affirm your God given truth. Shares these new findings and affirmations, with someone, etc. Pastor, Spiritual Mentor/Coach, Spiritual Director, or trusted friend.
6. Evaluate: Evaluate the process and growth.
7. Learning assessment: Journal feelings, "aha", resistances and tension.
8. Engage: Engage elements of step one. The End-- Omega Stage prayer, scripture, cultural valures, or tradition.
9. Nuture: Access your needs for further theological reflection and celebrate your measurable success.
